“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy is everlasting.”
Psalm 118: 1
Meditate or Reflect
I have a very fond memory from my childhood of my southern grandmother who upon amazement, or surprise would say “for goodness sake!” Do you have your own memory of that expression, too?  And, at its core, the saying is true – for goodness sake. All that is good comes from God or is a blessing from God. Today’s verse from Psalm 118 says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.” Goodness is the condition of being morally honorable, being beneficial for another, and pleasing to God. In this verse we not only proclaim that God is good, we also learn how to be in relationship with God because of His goodness – gratitude, giving thanks to Him. Reflect on the goodness of God. Take a breath, and consider the ways He has been good to you, beneficial in His mercy to you.

Heart, Mind, and Soul
Tune into how you experience goodness in your heart. Does goodness make your heart feel full? Does goodness feel like the cleanest room in your house? How would you like for goodness to feel in your heart? Let goodness in your heart be a way of life today. Take a moment to make room for goodness in your heart today.

Turn to your thoughts.  Have you made time for doing good? What would goodness in your thoughts be like?  Intentional? Thankful? Helpful? Obedient?  Let goodness in your mind be a way of life today. Take a moment to make room for goodness in your thoughts today.

Bring your focus to your soul. How is goodness abiding in your soul in this moment? Take a breath and abide with God’s presence, receiving the goodness he extends to you today.

God, Self, and Others – Set your intention for today, or make a plan for cultivating goodness
Will you walk in God’s goodness and mercy toward you today? Giving thanks for His goodness.
Will you practice goodness, doing what is morally honorable in word, thought, and deeds?
How will you extend goodness toward others today? Start with one person.
